Amigos is proud to announce it is celebrating 30 years in business during the month of June. Founded by Roger and Janice Moore, the first Amigos opened on June 17, 1980 at 5500 O Street in Lincoln. From that day forward, the mission of Amigos has been to serve fresh, quality food in a friendly way.
From day one, Amigos has offered table delivery services and free salsa bars, while specializing in serving homemade spicy sauce, Ranch dressing, and food prepared with freshly made ingredients. Amigos was one of the first companies in the area to offer tuition reimbursement opportunities to employees. Over the years, Amigos has expanded services by adding a breakfast menu and co-branding with Winchells’ Donuts (2002), Kings Classic (2003), and Kopeli Coffee (2007).

You can’t talk about Pepe’s Bistro without first talking about the decor. Located above the Against the Wall art gallery in Lincoln’s Havelock District, Pepe’s is essentially a one-room second-floor cafe that focuses on fresh vegetarian Mexican cuisine.
When you climb the narrow staircase towards the restaurant, the first thing you see is a hallway straight ahead, filled with vintage cruiser bikes. The dining room itself has a very informal, homey aura about it; each table is slightly different, the walls are painted in bright colors and there’s a velvet portrait of Elvis that hangs proudly.

Last week, four friends and I took a short drive out of town to visit Mamasitas Restuarante. Located in Bennet, about 20 minutes southeast of Lincoln, Mamasitas offers fresh, flavorful Mexican dishes with a family feel.
The restaurant is decorated with bright colors and black-and-white portraits of owner Dennis Gardner’s family. While it may not be the largest restaurant, Mamasitas’ friendly, helpful staff and informative menu definitely provided a personal touch to our dining experience.

Not
only is La Tapatia, 1037 L Street, rich in flavor – it’s
rich in culture and color.
Piñatas
and small flags from Corona and Budweiser are strung across
the high
ceilings; the restaurant is tucked into the back of a grocery store
and deli.
My
roommate and I visited last Wednesday. Our meal started with warm
chips and two dishes of salsa, one mild and one hot. The restaurant
was tucked against the grocery store and deli, but close enough to
the kitchen that we could hear (and smell) our food being prepared.
The
mild salsa was chunky with bits of tomato and onion—just
perfect for my low “spicy” tolerance. The hot made me
gasp and quickly wolf down more chips, much to my roommate’s
amusement. She didn’t think the hot was too spicy, though
she generally doesn't prefer a lot of spice.
